Topic:   Make Inclusion Successful at the Secondary Level

Presented by:

Sanja Cale, Ph.D.. BCBA

From "Get'em in" - to "Get'em through" - and now "Get'em ready!”, the focus of IDEA and post-secondary transition for middle and high school students with disabilities has shifted to prepare students for life beyond high school. This shift now includes preparing students for further employment, post-secondary education, and independent, community-based living. This training will concentrate on how to best prepare high school students to meet such goals via appropriate transition planning, curriculum supports and modifications, and social skill training during adolescence.

Important: Due to space limitations, prior registration is required.
Please call 516-983-7008 or E-mail: dsaf03@gmail.com to register to attend.

The 7th Annual Conference On Best Practicesin the Education of Children with Down Syndrome co-sponsored with the C.W. Post Campus of LIU was a success.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful presenters and all who volunteered to make this conference happen. Several school districts were represented, as well several teacher preparation programs, and the conference attracted both families and professionals from the tri-state area. As always, the children with Down syndrome and their siblings had a great time at our Saturday events!

Lose the Training Wheels™, The Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation, and The Center for Community Inclusion at C.W. Post are collaborating again on an exciting event.

Lose the Training Wheels™, a program that teaches individuals with disabilities to independently ride a conventional two wheel bicycle will be taking applications shortly for the week of March 29 - April 02. Lose The Training Wheels™ is more than just a bike-riding program. For many children with disabilities, it’s a seemingly impossible task they can typically master in less than a week’s time. Within days of learning to ride, many children exhibit independent behaviors for the first time ever. This achievement, in turn, creates a gateway of opportunity, helping them gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.

For more information about the program visit www.losethetrainingwheels.org. Registration forms will be available soon on our website @ www.dsafonline.org. Please pass on the enclosed press release to anyone who may be interested. This program welcomes individuals with all different abilities.
